Mommy's Heart Went Pop is a sweet children's book (and beautifully illustrated!) showing a white family going through the adoption process--longing and waiting for the day when they can finally meet their African child. As the mother cares for her other children, she ponders her child around the world and her heart grows bigger and bigger. Then one day they travel and pick up their new child, and on that day "Mommy's Heart Went Pop!" All her love spills out when she gets to hold her child for the first time, look in his eyes, count his fingers and toes, and sing him a lullaby.
As an adoptive father, Peter and his wife noticed there weren't many children's resources for African adoptive families. (so true!) And with the rise of international adoptions, there was a huge need for materials to help paint the picture of adoption, the love of a mother, and a transracial family.
This book is a great resource for an African adoptive family (particularly if they are adopting a younger child)! And all the proceeds from the book are being donated to provide grants for adoption, as well as support to organizations addressing the orphan care process. I just love that.
Here are two endorsements for the book:
"The special love of an adoptive parent provides an opportunity for an exceptional kind of story. Mommy's Heart Went POP! is just such a tale...It is a book that will touch your heart with the love and care that all children so richly deserve." --Wess Stafford, President and CEO, Compassion International
"With lyrical grace and poignant simplicity, Mommy's Heart Went POP! captures the tender love at the heart of adoption. It comes as a gift to all who have been touched by adoption children and parents, relatives and friends." -- --Jedd Medefind, President Christian Alliance for Orphans
